CHARLOTTE, NC – Coker’s tennis teams split with Queens University of Charlotte Friday afternoon with the men winning 5-4 and the women falling 9-0.  The men improve to 4-2 on the season and the women are now 3-4.

The men played one of their best matches under Coach John Blackburn and pulled out the 5-4 road win against a Royals team who will most likely qualify for the CVAC Tournament.  Matt Byford/Essex, UK and Duncan Grew/Bath, UK defeated Chris Donelan and Walter Basten at number one doubles but CC dropped the other two doubles matches.

Coker entered singles play needing to win four of the six matches and they sealed the win with a clutch victory at number five singles by freshman Danny Nash/Hilton Head, SC.  Byford, Grew, and Tim Morton/Surrey, UK got the ball rolling by winning at number one, two and three singles.  QUC won at number six singles and won a three setter at number four singles, tying the match at 4-4.  Nash dropped the first set 6-7, but rallied to win the next two 6-4 and 6-2 to deliver Coker’s fourth consecutive victory.
