Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener on the Road at Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Coker University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match to the Francis Marion University Patriots 5-0 on Saturday (Sept. 7).  

It was a competitive first half of play as both teams were able to create scoring opportunities. Goalkeeper Guilermo Falo Ejea kept the Cobras in the game with two big saves as the Patriots offense generated seven total shot attempts. The Cobras defense played a strong first 45 minutes of play as they held the Patriots to one goal, going into halftime trailing 1-0. 

The Francis Marion offense turned it up a notch in the second half as they scored four goals. Nestor Nunez scored twice, while three Patriots in total found the back of the net in the contest.  The strong second half performance fueled the Patriots to a 5-0 victory. 

Christian Provenzano was the player of the match for the Cobras, leading the squad with four shot attempts, with two being on goal. Robi Obrstar and Lucas Miquel Castrillo each had a shot on goal as well. 

Coker will be back in action on Wednesday (Sept. 11) when they travel to Belmont, N.C. to face the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders in a non-conference match. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
