Cobra Drop Back and Forth Contest to Indians

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's soccer team dropped a back and forth 2-1 contest to the visiting Indians of Catawba College Saturday (Sept. 23) evening.

The Cobras came out strong in the first half, controlling the offensive end of the field and firing off 10 shots compared to the Indians five. However, Catawba found an opportunity to pull ahead of Coker with a penalty kick and scored in the 32nd minute of play.

The Catawba lead was short lived as Cameron McDonald found Jacob Simonis who buried his shot past the goal keeper in the 40th minute for his team-leading third goal of the season.

During the second half, Catawba found the back of the net in the 80th minute and would hold onto the lead for the victory. Once again, the Cobras earned plenty of scoring chances, recording 12 shots compared to the Indians six in the second half.

Simonis led the charge offensively for Coker with one goal and seven shots. Other Cobras who fired off shots include Joao Silva (6), Matt, Trimby (2), Cameron McDonald (2), Robbie Jenkinson (1), Charles Hopwood (1), Aladdin Elfares (1), Chris Bordelon (1), and Albert Schonhofer (1).

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Sept. 27) when they travel to Mars Hill to take on the Lions at 7:30 p.m.
