Cobras Pick Up Crucial SAC Win Over Queens

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's soccer team notched a 2-0 win over the visiting Queens University of Charlotte Royals on Saturday (Oct. 22) night in South Atlantic Conference action.

It was Aladdin Elfares striking first in the fifth minute, capitalizing off a failed clear attempt by Queens and finding the back of the net for the eighth time this season. Both teams would slow down in the final 40 minutes of the half and head to the locker rooms with the score still 1-0, in favor of the Cobras.

Both teams had several opportunities in the early portion of the second half, however the defenses and keepers could not be broken. It was Mads Aagurd that broke 81-minute scoring drought, when he was on the receiving end of a Rohan Francis header and was able to beat the Queens keeper for his first goal of the season and give Coker a 2-0 lead in the 86th minute. The Cobras would finish strong, securing the shutout and 2-0 SAC win.

Elfares and Aagurd led the way, with one goal apiece, while Redd Pratley recorded four shots and one shot on goal. Alvaro Urena connected with three shots, one of which was on goal, while Steffen Husum also recorded a shot. Michael Ritterbeck picked up the win in goal, collecting one save.

The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 25) when they welcome the visiting Tusculum College Pioneers for a South Atlantic Conference matchup. Opening kick is set for 2 p.m.
