Lum, McCarron Named to Scholar All-Region Team

HARTSVILLE, S.C. –Coker College men's soccer players Atticus Lum and Brendan McCarron have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-Region team. Both players were named to the second team in the All-South region.

"Atticus and Brendan have been two excellent role models on the field and within the classroom," said head men's soccer coach Paul Leese. "Both lead by example and put their studies above all else, and it's wonderful to see their efforts recognized. I am sad to see two excellent young men leave our program, but I am extremely proud of their accomplishments."

Lum is a defender who played in 15 matches this season, starting 13. A four-year starter, Lum scored one goal while helping man the Cobras' strong defensive line.

Off the field, Lum is a senior biology major and sports a 3.75 GPA. He is on the Coker Enactus team along with McCarron. Lum was also a 2012-13 Conference Carolinas academic all-conference selection and an all-conference and all-region performer during the 2011-12 season.

Originally from Advance, N.C., Lum is the son of Phillip and Christine Lum.

On the field, McCarron, a defender and team captain, tallied one assist while playing in 16 games. He anchored a defense that led the South Atlantic Conference in team shutouts and gave up the third-fewest goals in the conference. In November, McCarron was named the 2013 SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and in October, he was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District men's soccer team as a first-team selection.

McCarron is a senior biology major and boasts a 3.76 grade-point average. He is a member of Coker's Enactus team - a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.

McCarron was also named to the academic all-conference team and presidential honor roll in 2012, both earned while Coker was a member of Conference Carolinas.

A native of Tampa, Fla., McCarron is the son of Kevin and Christine McCarron.
