Coker's Sweeney Named NSCAA Scholar All-American

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College men's soccer player James Sweeney racked up two more honors on Tuesday. He was named to the 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of American Men's College Division Scholar All-America second team and the NSCAA 2012 Men's College Division Scholar All-South Region first team.

Sweeney is a senior mathematics major from Huntingtown, Md., and boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA. He led Coker to a 12-4-1 record and its second consecutive Conference Carolinas regular-season championship. For the season, he allowed 13 goals, made 54 saves and posted seven shutouts. His 0.81 goals-against average was best in conference.

In addition to these two honors, Sweeney's 2012 postseason accolades now include: conference scholar athlete of the year; conference defensive player of the year; first team all-conference; NSCAA All-Southeast Region second team; and being featured in NCAA On Campus.

Sweeney will graduate in May. He is the son of Franklin and Christine Sweeney.
