HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Six members of the Coker College men's soccer team were named to the Conference Carolinas academic all-conference team today. Seniors Noah Lascell, David Pent and James Sweeney, as well as juniors Atticus Lum, Brendan McCarron and Tyler Staub were all named to the team.

Lascell hails from Myrtle Beach, S.C., and is a criminology major; Sweeney is a mathematics major from Huntingtown, Md.; Pent is a business major from Lexington, S.C.; Lum, an Advance, N.C., native, and McCarron, who is from Tampa, Fla., are both biology majors; Staub hails from Murrells Inlet, S.C., and is a business and political science double major.

"I'm very proud of our team's performance in the classroom as much as on the soccer field," head coach Paul Leese said. "It can be tough to balance a challenging academic workload with such a competitive soccer program. Recruiting well-rounded student-athletes is a priority as their overall leadership within the team contributes greatly to our success."

Conference Carolinas awards junior and senior student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale in all work completed at their member institution who have played in a conference sponsored sport. The GPA is calculated based on the student-athletes' cumulative average through the previous semester, and each student-athlete must have attended his or her member institution for at least one academic year.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletic conference made up of 12 teams from North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Coker College, Converse College, Erskine College, King College, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, Mount Olive College, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University and Queens University of Charlotte.
