HARTSVILLE, S.C. – In a battle of regionally ranked opponents, the #8 ranked Mars Hill Lions pulled off an upset knocking off the #5 ranked Coker Cobras 3-0 on Wednesday night in men’s collegiate soccer action.

Coker and Mars Hill each had 12 shots, but it was Mars Hill that was able to capitalize on their scoring opportunities.

Mars Hill got on the board early thanks to a Shadi Harb blast from 30 yards out that found the back of the net in the 15th minute. Coker would hold Mars Hill scoreless for the rest of the first half, entering the second half down 1-0.

It was in the 67th minute that the Lions struck again, this time it was Friddy Hoegener that scored on a one timer from Stephen Bivens.

With just under 30 minutes, Coker applied heavy offensive pressure, but was unable to get anything past the Lion’s goalkeeper Zac Scott who finished the night with seven saves.

Harb scored his second goal of the match in the 87th minute with an assist from John Wyman, putting the game out of the Cobras reach.

Ryan Lewis (Satellite Beach, Fla.) had five saves in match for Coker, while Daniel Shirzad (Orlando, Fla.) and Tyler Senecal (Mt. Pleasant, N.C.) each had two shots on the goal.

Coker will be back in action on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. when the Cobras host the Queens University of Charlotte.
