HIGH POINT, N.C. - Despite controlling much of the game, the High Point University men's soccer team came up short on Sunday night against Coker College as the Cobras captured the 2-1 victory in Vert Track and Soccer Stadium.

Coker (2-1-0) got on the board first when Matthew Jarrett blocked the kickoff attempt of the HPU goalkeeper and was able to maintain control to send the ball into the back of the net to give the Cobras the 1-0 advantage.

The Panthers responded with a goal in the 66th minute when the Panthers' free kick attempt ricocheted off a defender and freshman Chris Gonzales was able to connect with the ball and send it into the goal to tie the game, 1-1. High Point and Coker stayed knotted as regulation ended to send the game into overtime.

In the 94th minute Coker was able to seal the victory when Doug McMahen found the HPU keeper out of the goal to give the Cobras the 2-1 win.

High Point had 13 shots to Coker's three. The Cobras' keeper, Joel Tyson saved two shots while HPU keeper Corey Whisenhunt had one.

The Cobras return to action on Wednesday, September 5, as they host UNC-Pembroke at the Coker Soccer Field at 7:00 p.m.
