Bradenton, FL- The Coker College Men’s Soccer Team played a friendly match against the United States U17 National Team on Saturday morning in Bradenton, FL. In the Cobras first venture into the international soccer scene, Coker held its own, but eventually fell lost the match 1-0.

The game was scoreless through the first half of play with the Cobras getting a couple of good scoring chances that they were not able to capitalize on. The only goal of the game came in the 47th minute off the foot if a national team member.

“This was a great match for our players to be a part of,” said Coach Robert Lane. “It was a tremendous opportunity us the chance to play against some great competition and since some many of the guys are from Florida it gave their families and friends an opportunity to see them play close to home.”

Coker was the first opponent that the U17 Team had faced since returning to the states from South Korea and the FIFA Championships.

The Cobras will return to regular play on Wednesday, as they travel to Brevard College for a 4:00 p.m. match.
