WILSON, NC -- Chris Tripp scored two second-half goals Wednesday night as the Barton College men's soccer team won its first league soccer match in the last two seasons, topping Coker College 3-2.

Barton rose to 5-9-1 overall with its third win in its last four games while Coker slumped to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in league play.

The Bulldogs were winless in CVAC play last year (0-8-2) and 0-6-1 in Conference Carolinas play this season heading into the match (17 straight losses).

Coker took a 2-0 lead into halftime on goals by Daniel Shrizad and Matthew Jarrett. Doug McMahen and Mike Crook notched the assists.

However, the second half was a different story. In the 51st minute, Fernando Guzman served a ball into the middle that Heinz Guttenberger headed off the crossbar, then Tripp finished. In the 72nd minute, Guzman sent in a corner kick that Max Holly headed into the net. The Bulldogs finally broke their league drought in the 82nd minute. Holly served the ball 45 yards to Tripp, who chested the ball to his feet, then turned and ripped it into the goal.

Both teams finished with eight shots on goal. Matt Coble tallied six saves for Barton and Ryan Lewis notched five saves for the Cobras.
