Hartsville, SC- The Coker Men’s Soccer Team snapped their two game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over the Trojans of Anderson University. The victory improves the Cobras to 5-5 overall, and 2-2 in the conference, while the Trojans fall to 3-6 overall, and 2-1 in the conference.

Coker opened the scoring early and never looked back. Doug McMahen (Winter Springs, FL) scored just three minutes after the kick-off, thanks to a long pass up the right side from Dennis Gonzalez (Orlando, FL), giving the Cobras a 1-0 lead. Anderson held Coker to just one goal into halftime, but in the 57th minute Mike Crook (Bradenton, FL) found the back of the net for an unassisted goal, putting the Cobras on top 2-0.

Coker capped off the victory at the 86 minute mark, when Beeze Chastain (Moonville, SC) sent a high cross to Olivier Harper (Orlando, FL), giving Harper a one-on-one with the Trojan keeper. In the end Harper won the battle and tallied the Cobras third goal of the match.

Joel Tyson (Columbia, SC) recorded the shut out in the net for Coker, with two saves, while Anderson’s Adrian Osborne (Nottingham, England) took the loss, allowing three goals with two saves.

Anderson out shot Coker 10-6 and the Trojans also had the advantage on corner kicks 9-3, but the Cobras had 10 fouls to Anderson’s seven.

Coker returns to the soccer pitch on Tuesday, when they host Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
