GREENWOOD, SC-  Lander freshman Aaron Brittain scored two goals for the third consecutive game and goalkeeper Garrett Daum stopped two penalty kicks, pacing the undefeated Bearcats to a 4-0 non-conference men’s soccer victory over Coker College Saturday.

 

Lander improved to 3-0-1 while the Cobras fell to 3-3. The Bearcats have won three straight after opening the season with a tie.

 

Brittain scored his first goal with 19:56 left in the first half, catching the keeper out of the box with a long header to make it 1-0. The goal was unassisted and came after a long punt from Daum that found its way through a pack of players to Brittain. It was 1-0 at halftime.

 

Drew Courtney scored Lander’s second goal off a cross from Christian Mason with 38:45 left in the second half.

 

Coker had a scoring chance around the 34-minute mark when Colin Ryan attempted a penalty kick. But Daum dived to his right, catching the ball for the save.

 

Brittain’s second goal of the game and seventh of the season was an empty-netter off an assist from Courtney with 32:30 to go.

 

With 7:34 left, Daum faced another penalty kick and smothered Daniel Shirzad’s shot.

 

Nick Cooke scored from close range off an assist from K.C. Dunbaker with 3:32 remaining.

 

Lander out-shot the Cobras 15-9. Joel Tyson made three saves in the first half in goal for Coker while Ryan Lewis made two stops in the second half. Daum recorded the shutout, collecting five saves for the Bearcats.
