Hartsville, SC- The Anderson College Trojans proved to be more than the Coker Soccer teams could handle, as both the women and the men lost by two goals Saturday afternoon in collegiate soccer. The women lost 2-0 and dropped to 6-7 overall, and 3-4 in the CVAC, while the men fell 4-2 and are now 2-8 overall, and 0-6 in the CVAC.

The men’s game saw hard physical play from the start of the game. Coker would take advantage first, when they were awarded a penalty kick just one minute into the game. Junior Justin Potter/Houston, TX, beat Anderson’s keeper Jack Ward, to give Coker the early 1-0 lead. Anderson would answer with a goal by Will Van Nostrand in the 16th minute, to tie it at one.

The score remained tied until the second half when junior Sean Maupin/Lexington, SC, fed freshman Matt Jarrett/Roswell, GA, a cross in front of the net that Jarrett headed and the keeper blocked. Jarrett collected the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net. The Trojan’s would score again, this time by Micheal Zion, who beat Coker’s Aaron Osteen/Black Mountain, NC. Four minutes later, Anderson looked as if they were going to take the lead as they were awarded a penalty kick, but Osteen came up with a huge save to stop Anderson’s Clint Gillis.

Unfortunately for the Cobras, Anderson would take the lead in the 76th minute when Wrenel Roberts scored the Trojan’s third goal off a corner kick by Stephon Henry. The Trojan’s would seal the win three minutes later with a goal by Josh Pittman.

Coker keeper Aaron Osteen had a 13 saves in the game, and Anderson’s Jack Ward had two saves.

The Coker Soccer teams have a week off until their next game, when they travel to Barton College in Wilson, NC, on Saturday, October 15.
