Hartsville, SC- The Coker College Soccer Teams took on the St. Andrews Knights in Coker College’s 2005 Homecoming games on Saturday, October 1.

The second game of the day, between the Coker Men and St. Andrew’s Men, was a battle to the very end, as it took two overtime periods to determine a winner. In the end the Cobras came up short as the Knights won 2-1. With the loss Coker drops to 2-7 on the year, and 0-5 in the CVAC.

The first goal of the game came from the Knight’s Neil Hastie off a header from a direct kick from Kristsztian Mikoczi. The score remained 1-0 until Coker evened the score at one in the 86th minute, even though St. Andrews had two goals waved off because of fouls. Freshman Dennis Gonzalez/Orlando, FL, got a pass from Sean Maupin/Lexington, SC, just outside the 18 yard mark and then dribbled in through traffic and ripped a shot past the St. Andrews keeper.

The score remained tied at one through the end of regulation and through the first overtime period. In the 114th minute, St. Andrew’s Justin Garton fed a pass to Marques Norwood, who tapped in the winning goal past Coker’s keeper Aaron Osteen/Black Mountain, NC.

Coker’s Osteen had seven saves in the game, while St. Andrew’s Nick Stevens had three.

The next match for the Cobra women will be on Wednesday, October 5, when they travel to play the All-Stars of Converse College, while the men’s next game will be at home against Anderson College on October 8.
