Cobras Beat Out Catawba for the Win in Close Match-Up

Salisbury, NC - The Coker University Men's Lacrosse Team shut down Catawba in a mid-week match-up, now taking their record up to 7-4. 

Starting off the game, Jackson Braswell of Catawba landed the first goal, taking the Indians up by one. Cal Gibson, his second game back from an injury, quickly answered Braswell with a goal of his. Keeping it tight, Jack Butler was the next to score and would once again take Catawba up by one. Cal Gibson not deterred by the quick goals of Catawba brought in his second goal of the night and ties the game up at 2-2. Finishing out the first quarter, Catawba took a lead of two points, the score at 4-2. Shortly after beginning the second quarter, Garrett Simi found the back of the cage and extended Catawba's lead by three. Coker still holding on to momentum, fired back with goals from Zyaire Marshall and Justin Beighey (assists from Sean Moran and Elijah Utz). With the game tied one again, both teams headed into halftime looking for a win. 

Hoping to shut the game down, Coker started off and finished the third quarter hot with three unanswered goals. Sean Moran (assist from Cal Gibson) registered his first goal of the game and Justin Beighey (assisted by Ryan Forehand) claimed another two. The Cobras with a 8-5 lead entered the fourth quarter ready to close the game out. At the 9:16 minute mark, Ryan Forehand snatched a goal from the Indians, taking the lead up to four. Nathan Allan hungry for a goal of his own, scored the 10th goal for the Cobras just seven seconds after Forehand's. Despite a heavy lead by the Cobras, Catawba continued to fight and brought back the game within one point. The game would be sealed at a score of 10-9 and Coker taking home the victory. 

Throughout the game Coker picked up 35 ground balls, Nathan Allan leading with eight. The Cobras also went 21-25 on clears and 8-23 on face-offs. Of the 26 shots taken, 14 landed on goal. 

Ethan Hofert played the entirety of the 60 minute game and registered 11 saves out of 20 shots. Hofert's record as the goalie sits at 7-4. 

The Cobras will be returning to the field on Saturday (April 1) against Limestone. The first face-off is set for 4:00 PM. Live streaming and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com
