Cobras Take Down Mountain Lions for Victory at Home

Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Men's Lacrosse Team claimed their second straight victory over Mars Hill on Saturday (March 18th).

Within three minutes of the first face-off, Coker took control of the game with a goal from Jackson Duke (assist from Ashton Carnes) and began the heated back and forth between both teams. Although strong attempts from Mars Hill, the Cobras were able to claim their second goal in the final minute of the first quarter; another goal scored by Jackson Duke (assisted by Ashton Carnes). Once again, the Cobras started off hot with a goal from Justin Beighey (assist from Sean Moran) and took their lead up by three. It wasn't until the 27th minute of the game that Mars Hill was able to register their first goal; socred by George Yanssens. Finishing the first half with a bang, Ryan Forhand made his first goal of the game and took the score up to 4-1.

Entering the second half, Mars Hill had found some new momentum with two back to back goals from Trevor Kennedy. Although it seemed like the Mountain Lions were gaining, the Cobras stayed their path and with goals from Zyaire Marshall and Augie Ford, took their lead up to three. Sean Moran began the fourth quarter with a fiery shot in to the back of the net, this only increasing the energy on Coker's sideline. Despite strong energy and a sizable lead for the Cobras, the Mountain Lions rattled off three consecutive goals. This brought the game within one point. Sean Moran (assisted by Ryan Forehand) and Blake Schoknecht put the game away at a score of 9-7.

Coker picked up 21 ground balls, Nathan Allan collecting seven of those. The Cobras also went 22-25 on clears, and won 5-19 face offs.

Ehtan Hofert spent the entirety of the 60 minute game in between the pipes and registered 14 saves out of 21 shots.

The Cobras will be returning to the field on Wednesday (March 22nd) against Shorter. The first face-off will be taken at 4:00 PM in Hartsville, SC. Live streaming and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com
