Coker Falls to Barton Bulldogs in Non-Conference Match

Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Men's Lacrosse Team fell to Barton in an early season non-conference match up. 

Starting off scoring, Barton's Mark Crawford was the first to find the back of the net, putting the Bulldogs up 1-0. Continuing, Josh Klinger (assisted by Mason Chaney) was the next to score for Barton, now giving the Bulldgos a 2-0 lead. Cal Gibson firing back, landed the first goal of the night for the Cobras. Coker would go on to score one goal more goal in the first quarter and Barton would land two more, bringing the score to 4-2. Zyaire Marshall, putting some under the Cobras, scored his first goal of the game brought the Bulldogs' lead down to one. Next up, Sean Moran (assisted by Cal Gibson) found the back of the cage, the game now tied at 4-4. 

The third quarter would be an explosive 15 minutes for Barton as they rattled off eight consecutive goals, taking the lead to 14-4. It wasn't until the last minute of the third quarter that Elijah Utz (assisted by Ryan Forehand) was able to answer back and bring the score back to 14-5. Elijah Utz and Ryan Forehand would continue to score the last three goals for Coker, rounding out the game at a score of 18-8. 

Throughout the game, Coker registered 37 shots and 21 shots on goal. Cal Gibson led with 11 shots and five shots on goal. The Cobras went 14-19 on clears and 6-27 on face-offs. Of the 18 ground balls, Nate Allan collected six of those. 

Ethan Hofter played 45 of the 60 minute game with 11 saves. KJ Seymour played the final quarter of the game and registered four saves. 

The Cobras will return to the field on Saturday (March 4) against Anderson. The first face off will be taken at 7 PM in Anderson, SC. Live stream and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com
