Coker Falls to North Greenville in Overtime

Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Men's Lacrosse Team dropped their third game of the season to North Greenville in a nail-biting early season match up. 

Starting off strong, Cal Gibson, found the back of the cage within one minute of the game starting. Coker then continued to rattle off two more goals, scored by Ryan Forehand and Justin Beighey (assisted by Blake Schoknect) putting the Cobras up by three. Coker entered into the second quarter with a score of 3-0 against the Crusaders. North Greenville was finally able to add a goal to the scoreboard within five minutes of the second quarter starting, shot made by Tyler Pellegrino (assisted by Sean Mullineaux) bringing Coker's lead back down to two points. Although North Greenville put away the first goal of the second quarter, the Cobras fueled their fire with five consecutive goals scored by Cal Gibson, Blake Schoknect, Jackson Duke, Will Habel, and Ryan Forehand. This brought Coker's lead to 7-1 in the later half of the second quarter. North Greenville was able to land two quick goals in the final minute of the second quarter, inching closer to the Cobras. 

After a 15 minute intermission between halves, both teams were at it again. North Greenville was the first to land a goal in the third quarter, put in the back of the net by Thomas Cecere and assisted by Cam Webb. Coker kept their momentum going by answering back with two goals, made by Zyaire Marshall and Will Habel (assist from Augie Ford). Coker was able to get off one more goal in the third quarter compared to North Greenville's three. Despite North Greenville closing the gap on Coker's lead, the Cobras continued to push, Connor Gross scoring in the first ten second of the fourth quarter. Although the high energy from Coker and the fiery start, North Greenville was able to make a comeback and overtake the Cobras in the final two minutes of overtime. 

Ethan Hofert registered 61:38 minutes in the goal with 13 saves throughout the game. Nate Allan also went 16-28 in face-offs for the Cobras. Compared to North Greenville's 11 ground balls, Coker was able to collect a total of 24 and went 16-17 in clears. 

The Cobras will be returning to the field on Wednesday (Feb. 22) against Chowan. The first face off is set for 4:00 PM in Hartsville, SC. Live streaming and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com
