Men’s Lacrosse Brings Two-Game Win Streak into Conference Matchup with Queens

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's lacrosse team (5-4, 2-2 SAC) will bring their two-game win streak into Saturday's (Mar. 31) conference matchup with the Queens University Royals at 4 p.m. Live stats and video for the game can be found at www.cokercobras.com.

As mentioned, the Cobras bring a two-game win streak into tomorrow's contest, defeating Newberry 5-3 on Mar. 21 and Mars Hill 11-6 on Mar. 24.

In the Cobras most recent victory over Mars Hill, Rylee Marsh led the Navy and Gold on the offensive end, recording four goals and dishing out one assist. Matt Murphy made significant contributions on the offensive end as well, tallying two goals and adding two assists. Ethan Irizarry finished the game with three goals and one assist, while Andrew Dappen recorded one goal and one assist. In the cage, Chris Hagy collected an impressive 12 saves off of 18 shots.

Heading into tomorrow's contest, Marsh and Murphy lead the Cobras on the offensive end with 27 and 22 points, respectively. Marsh has buried a team-high 15 goals and has dished out 12 assists, while Murphy has tallied 14 goals and has added eight assists. Marsh's season total in assists is good for ninth in the South Atlantic Conference. Irizarry trails Marsh and Murphy with 19 points, recording 13 goals and six assists.

Justin Hopkins, DeShaun Ormond, and Charles Stafford have been ground ball machines for the Navy and Gold, scooping up 36, 25, and 23 ground balls, respectively. Defensively, Ormond has caused a team-best 14 turnovers, good for seventh in the conference, while Cole Theodoropolous has added 11 for the ninth best mark in the SAC. In between the pipes, Chris Hagy has accumulated 86 saves and has a 52.4 save percentage. Additionally, the freshman goalkeeper has a respectable 8.99 goals against average, which is the second best mark in the conference.

Queens enters tomorrow's contest with a 3-5 overall record and a 1-2 mark in SAC play. Offensively, the Royals are led by Reed Murphy and Justin Swick with 13 points each.

As mentioned, opening face off is set for 4 p.m. at the Coker Athletic Field. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
