Cobra Men's Lacrosse Set to Open 2016 Season Friday Against Rollins

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobra men's lacrosse team will open up its 2016 season on Friday (Feb. 12) afternoon when they host the Rollins College Tars. Live stats and video of the game will be available at www.cokercobras.com.

Coker is coming off a 2015 season where they went 9-5 overall and 7-1 in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) play, capturing the program's first SAC regular season championship. Leading the way for the Cobras are preseason All-SAC selections Mike Martiello, Josh Smith and Shane Wilson. The trio accounted for 68 goals and 36 assists last season. Coker will also look to Rylee Marsh on the offensive side of the ball. The sophomore scored 12 goals and dished out 15 assists last year during his rookie campaign.

Defensively, the Cobras will lean on DeShaun Ormond and Patrick Timothee. The sophomore and junior tandem caused 17 combined turnovers last season and scooped up 45 ground balls.

Rollins (1-0) comes to Hartsville after a 13-6 win over Young Harris in their season opener. Justin Diamond, Nicholas Schultz and Carson Buell lead the Tar attack. Diamond scored four goals against Young Harris, while Schultz and Buell each had two goals with an assist. Goalie Jake Hogan allowed just six goals and made nine saves in the opening contest. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Cobras and the Tars.

Opening face-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Coker Athletic Field. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
