Six Cobras Receive All-Conference Honors, Olliver Leads the Way

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Six members of the 2015 SAC regular season champion Coker men's lacrosse team have been selected as All-SAC performers,  the league office announced today.

Leading the way is head coach David Olliver, who earned the highest honor by being named SAC Coach of the Year.

In the second full season under the tutelage of Olliver, the Cobras won a share of the regular season SAC title and earned the No. 2 seed in the SAC Men's Lacrosse Championship. They finished with program records in wins (9) and conference wins (7). The Navy and Yellow also finished the regular season on an eight-game winning streak.

In addition to Olliver, the Cobras placed Josh Smith and Dylan Marks on the All-SAC first team, while Mike Martiello and Tim Ryan were tabbed second team All-SAC selections. Rounding out the selections was Josh Wassum, who was named to the honorable mention All-SAC team.

Smith, a junior midfielder hailing from Mendon, Mass., was one of the many catalyst for the Coker offense during their 2015 season. Smith netted 21 goals to go along with 11 assists for a 32-point season. He also finished sixth in the SAC with 75 ground balls and won 96 face-offs, which was good enough for eighth in the conference.

Josh is a physical education major and is the son of Cory Armstrong and Jon Smith.

Marks, a senior defender, scooped up 29 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers for a Coker defense that only allowed 120 goals on the  season and 9.94 goals allowed per game. Both of those statistics ranking inside the top three in the SAC.

Dylan is an exercise science major from Westminister, Md. He is the son of Jean and Steve Marks.

Martiello, a junior midfielder from Westbury, N.Y., picks up his second straight All-SAC honors as he was named a second-team selection last season. He dished out a team-high 17 assists this season to go along with 16 goals for 33 points. His 17 assists were ninth best in the SAC. He also corralled 46 ground balls and won 34 face-offs.

Mike is a business administration major and is the son of Denise and Joseph Malone and Joseph Martiello.

Ryan, a senior goalkeeper from Glocester, R.I., was the backbone of the Coker defense that held opponents to under 10 goals a game for the first time in program history. He was first in the conference in wins (9) and winning percentage (.75), third in goals-against average (9.64) and fourth in save percentage (53.4). He tallied 126 saves in 684 minutes between the pipes.

Tim, a criminology major, is the son of Jane and Bob Ryan.

Wassum, a sophomore attack from Monkton, Md., racked up 29 points on 21 goals and eight assists for the Navy and Yellow offensively and scooped up 20 ground balls.

Josh is an undecided major and is the son of Loretta Wassum.
