Coker's Ryan and Smith Named SAC AstroTurf Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College men's lacrosse players Tim Ryan and Josh Smith have been named the AstroTruf South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, the league office announced today. The awards mark the second and third POTWs for men's lacrosse this season.

Ryan posted 28 saves for the Navy and Yellow in its two wins over Wingate and Catawba last week. He started out the week with 18 saves and a 75-percent save percentage to go along with four ground balls in Coker's 8-6 win over the then-first place Bulldogs. He followed that performance up with a 10-save outing against the Indians, while causing one turnover and saving 66.7-percent of the shots he faced.

On the season, Ryan has compiled 107 saves for a 10.7 saves per game average and has stopped 53.5-percent of the shots he has faced, while sporting a 9.95 goals-against average. His 9.95 goals-against average, 10.7 saves per game and 53.5 save percentage are good for 21st, 24th and 27th, respectively, in all of NCAA Division II.

Ryan is a criminology major from Glocester, R.I. He is the son of Jane and Bob Ryan.

Smith had a superb week for the Cobras, finishing with eight points on seven goals and an assist with 11 ground balls. Smith was an instrumental part in the Navy and Yellow's 8-6 win over Wingate as he scored three goals on only five shots and picked up nine ground balls. His encore performance against Catawba included four goals and an assist to go with two ground balls.

On the season, Smith has accumulated 30 points on 20 goals and 10 assists, while scooping up 60 ground balls. He ranks 13th in all of NCAA Division II with six ground balls per game, while his 30 points ranks 11th in the SAC.

A native of Mendon, Mass., Smith is a physical education major. He is the son of Cory Armstrong and Jon Smith.
