HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's lacrosse team won a pivotal South Atlantic Conference game on Sunday (Mar. 30) defeating the Brevard College Tornados 18-4. The win moves the Cobras to 3-2 in the SAC and into a two-way tie for the fourth and final spot in the conference tournament.

Ryan Maurer led the charge for the Navy and Yellow with seven points on one goal and a new Coker single-game record six assists. Not to be outdone, John Bretton netted four goals and handed out one assist for five points, while Mike Martiello collected four points on two goals and two assists. The trio of Paxton Caristi, Shane Wilson and Joshua Taylor each scored two goals, while Patrick Timothee, Ryan Vento, Andy Campos, Timothy Smith and Mike Maresca all found the back of the net once. Handing out assists for the Cobras were Smith (2), Vento (1), Campos (1) and John Elliott (1).

Tim Ryan had another solid day between the pipes for the Navy and Yellow as he stopped 12 shots and allowed a season low three goals. Elliott forced a team-high two caused turnovers and Max Balzter picked up a team-high six ground balls.

The first period would prove to be the most competitive of the game as the Cobras took a narrow 3-2 lead into the second period. Coker would use a 5-0 run in the second frame to take a commanding 8-2 lead into halftime.

The Cobras would come out blazing in the third period scoring four goals before allowing a Tornado score to make the game 12-3. The Navy and Yellow would tag on two more goals in the period to make it 14-3 heading to the fourth. The fourth period would belong to the Cobras as they collect four more goals before giving up a late score to set the final score at 18-4.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 5) when they host Catawba College in a South Atlantic Conference showdown. The game is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Byerly Park in Hartsville.
