Cobras Fall to Spartans in Rain Soaked Game

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- In a wet and wild lacrosse game, the Coker Cobras dropped a tough 10-4 contest to the visiting Tampa Spartans on Sunday afternoon.

Tampa opened the rain soaked game with a pair of first quarter goals, followed by three more in the second to take a 5-0 lead into halftime.

Coker got on the board in the third quarter thanks to Ryan Vento (Bellmore, N.Y.) and John Bretton (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.). Tampa also added two more goals taking a 7-2 lead into the fourth and final quarter.

Keith LaClair (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Timothy Smith (Commack, N.Y.) each scored in the fourth, but the Spartans tagged on three more for a 10-4 final.

Vento finished with a goal and an assist, while Steven Marciano (Shirley, N.Y.) also had an assist for the Cobras.

The Cobras will return to the field for their first road game of the season on Wednesday at Mars Hill College. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The McDonald's Player of the Game is presented by the Hartsville McDonald's and is given to the most outstanding performer during each Coker College home athletic event.
