Hartzog comes to Coker after a successful playing career at fellow South Atlantic Conference school, Mars Hill University. While playing for the Lions, Hartzog collected a 75.94 career scoring average, three individual wins, four team wins and was a three-time team captain. During his 2014-15 season, he was a first team all-conference selection and his 73.48 scoring average was inside the top 50 in Division II men's golf. In 2015-16, he finished third in the SAC Championship Tournament, earning first team all-tournament team honors.

He also was a member of the SAC Honor Roll four times and a member of the Dean's List three times.  

Hartzog graduated from Mars Hill University in May of 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education with a concentration in coaching. He is currently pursuing his graduate degree in college athletic administration at Coker.
