Cobras Sitting in 11th After Day 1

EATONTON, GA -- The Coker men's golf team stands 11th out of 15 teams after the first 36 holes of the Bobcat Invitational at the Golf Club of Cuscowilla.

The Cobras shot a 10-over par 290 on the challenging par-70 layout in the opening round Monday, and followed that with a 17-over 297 in blustery, chilly conditions in the afternoon.
The field includes 10 teams in the top 21 in the NCAA DII national rankings. The 21st-ranked Cobras are 18 shots back of Lander, who is 9-over through two rounds and has a one-stroke lead over West Florida.
Senior Caleb Tidd is the low man for Coker thus far after rounds of 69 and 75. His 4-over total is tied for 17th place. Victor Larson of Lander has the individual lead at 70-67--137 (-3). Only four players in the vaunted field are under par heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.
Tidd had three birdies and two bogeys in the first round when he logged no  3-putts on the quick, undulating greens. He was 1-under through nine holes in the second round before making a double and four bogeys on a six-hole stretch. He then finished with three straight pars.
Super senior Killian Ryan shot 72-74--146 for the Cobras, followed by senior Aaron Teece at 74-74--148, senior Jonathan Hallinger at 76-74--150, and junior Derek McGlaughlin at 75-76--151.
"We were eighth after the first round, when conditions were cold, but more favorable than during the afternoon round," Coker head coach John Hackney said. "I thought we were in a decent position, and when we started even par through six holes in the second round, we closed within seven shots of the lead, so things were looking up. However, we missed some makeable putts in the middle of the round, as well as a few fairways and greens, and that cost us. Now, we're in a fight to try to climb past some talented squads tomorrow. This is such a challenging course that anything can happen, so we are focused on playing better and finishing much higher in the standings."
Play is set to begin at 10 a.m. because of expected frost.
