Cobras Shoot -8 in the First Round of the Cateechee Fall Invitational

HARTWELL, GA -- The Coker men's golf team fired an 8- under par first round Monday and stands fourth out of 20 teams through 34 holes in the Cateechee Fall Invitational.

Playing against a field of the best teams in the Southeast Region, the Cobras made 19 birdies and an eagle in the first round to shoot a 276. The veteran squad was 2-over with nine birdies and one eagle in the second round when it was halted with one or two holes left for each player.
North Georgia torched the par-71 layout to the tune of 20-under by rolling in 33 birdies in the first round. North Georgia was 29-under when darkness set in for a lead of 17 shots over Lincoln Memorial, 21 over Georgia Southwestern and 23 over the Cobras.
Senior Jonathan Hallinger paced the Cobras with a 67 over the first 18 holes and is 2-under in the second round with two holes left.
Junior Derek McGlaughlin fired 69 in the opening round and is +1 in the second round with a par 5 left. Senior Killian Ryan shot 70 in the first round and is even par in the second round.
Senior Caleb Tidd shot 1-under on his first 18 and is +3 in the second round. Senior Aaron Teece was plus-1 for his first round and is +5 in the second.
"We played very steady in the first round to shoot our second straight 8-under team round," Coker head coach John Hackney said. "We really finished strong by playing the last two par 5s in 7- under, so hopefully we will get a couple of birdies to end round two, then take it deep for the final 18. We are gunning for second place."
