Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at Donald Ross Intercollegiate

MORGANTON, N.C. - The Coker men's golf team wrapped up play at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Oct. 19).

The Cobras shot a 862 (+22) team score, earning a sixth-place finish amongst the field of 18 teams.

Killian Ryan led the way for the Cobras, making four birdies en route to a round of 69 (-1). He would finish with an overall score of 212 (+2) and a T-7th finish. Fred Tindale also had a solid day, posting an impressive six birdies, while shooting 71 (+1). Tindale would finish with a tournament score of 213 (+3), good enough for T-9th place.

Caleb Tidd also played quality golf throughout the tournament, posting a final round score of 73 (+3) and an overall tournament score of 276 (+6). He would finish T-22. Michael Marsico and Derek McGlaughlin posted final round scores of 80 (+10) and 76 (+6) respectively. Marsico would finish with a tournament score of 285 (+15) and T-48th place. McGlaughlin would finish T-61st, while posting a score of 289 (+19).

"It was a solid performance from our guys this week," said head coach John Hackney. "We just never fully recovered from a poor first round, although we had an excellent second round and played good at the start and the finish of the third round today. We just didn't roll in enough putts and had a few too many three-putts that cost us. Otherwise, we should have been a contention to win the tournament. At one point today, we had risen as high as third or fourth place, but then we leaked a little oil in the middle before battling back at the finish."

"Sixth is our highest placement of the fall and we finished with about a 287 average, which is normally very good, but the golf is so exceptional this year that we finished in the middle of the pack in most of our tournaments."

"Killian had another fine day, rolling in four birdies and making just three bogeys for a 1-under 69 while Fred had a roller coaster day with seven bogeys and six birdies to shoot 1-over 71 (ninth place). Caleb just never got anything going yet held in there tough and finished with a 73 to place 22nd overall. I was proud of Derek, who got off to a rough start but then settled in to make pars on 11 of his last 13 holes and give us a counting score of 76."

"I think we learned a lot this fall and we've developed some great depth so we're excited for the off season and can't wait to see what we do in the spring!"
