Men’s Golf Completes Play at Queens Invitational

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Coker men's golf team wrapped up play at the Queens Invitational at the Club at Irish Creek on Tuesday (Oct. 12).

Sophomore Caleb Tidd led the way for the Cobras posting a third round score of 67 (-4), bringing his tournament total to 210 (-3). That score would be good enough for a T-22 finish. Tidd was closely followed by junior Killian Ryan, who fired a score of even par 71 in the third round and posted a total of 211 (-2) and a T-29 result.

Junior Fred Tindale posted a solid score of 74 (+3) and a total of 219 (+6) to finish T-58. Graduate student Michael Marsico posted a score of 69 (-2) for the round which improved on his second round score by eight shots. He would tally a tournament score of 220 (+7) and record a T-66 result. Senior Coleman Bess shot a final round 79 (+8) and had a tournament score of 226 (+13) to round out the performance for the Cobras. Coker recorded 41 birdies and a tournament-best three eagles.

The Cobras' team score of 855 was good enough for an 11th place finish amongst the field of 18 teams.

We came out of the gate a little bit slow in the 1st round this week, shooting 7 over par, but the guys bounced back to shoot 1 under and 3 under the last 36 holes so that was good to see. We have just made up our mind that because the golf is so fantastic at the D2 level now that you have to be in attack mode every day. You just can't be conservative and have a chance to win. We were only 3 shots from breaking the all-time school 54 hole scoring record of even par and yet we finished 11th out of 17 schools," said head coach John Hackney

"We did make 41 birdies and have 3 eagles this week, so that's a good sign for things to come as we head to Mimosa Hills next week. Caleb and Killian both had excellent tournaments, going under par for the week. They displayed some sensational ball striking throughout the event."

"I was proud of how Fred bounced back from a rough patch in the middle of his round to rattle off three straight birdies and give us a counting score of 74 this afternoon. Grad student Michael Marsico put together a great round today that included an eagle on his last hole that led to a collegiate-best round of 69. We have played the last two tournaments without Johnny Hallinger, who is out due to injury, yet we are still getting better and better every tournament, so I can't wait to see what's going to happen next week ... and in the spring"

Coker will be back in action next Monday (Oct. 18) when they travel to Morganton, N.C. to compete in the Donald Ross Intercollegiate at Mimosa Hills Golf Club. Coverage can be found at www.cokercobras.com
