Men’s Golf Competes at Queens Invitational

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Coker University men's golf team completed the first round of the Queens Invitational at the Club at Irish Creek on Monday (Oct. 11).

Killian Ryan finished the day tied for 25th place, shooting 140 (-2) on the day. Caleb Tidd is tied for 40th place after shooting a 143 (+1). Fred Tindale sits tied for 49th, shooting a 145 (+3) on the day. Coleman Bess is in 65th after shooting a 147 (+5). Michael Marisco is tied for 79th place, shooting a 151 (+9).

Coker is currently in 14th place as a team.

"We just didn't finish off our 1st round very well after a good start and we played very steady in the afternoon, but we're still just not making enough of those putts from 10 to 15 feet which is keeping us from being among the better teams in the field," said head coach John Hackney.

"We made 23 birdies today and Carson-Newman who's up at the top made 45 so there is a difference between being in contention and fighting in the middle of the pack."

I'm still proud of our guys because of our one-under round of 283 today is the 1st time and it's the 1st time in 4 years that the team has an under-power team score."

"Killian had an outstanding 1st round going bogey free until his last hole and shooting 68. Caleb had an excellent afternoon round firing a 69 with an eagle and two birdies. Fred had 2 birdies in his afternoon round of 70 and Coleman had 3 birdies at his afternoon round of 73. Mike had a great 1st round going but made a double bogey with a few holes left that kept him from having a good score."

"We were in attack mode this afternoon and plan to do the same thing tomorrow to try to climb up in the standings period of time. The golf at the highest level of D2 is superb right now so you have to make a ton of birdies to be a contention."

The Cobras will be back in action tomorrow, Tuesday (Oct. 12) Tee time is set for 8:30 a.m. Coverage can be found at www.cokercobras.com.
