Three Finish Inside Top 25 at Camden Collegiate

CAMDEN, S.C. - Coker University men's golf wrapped up play at the Camden Collegiate in Camden, S.C. at the Camden Country Club on Tuesday (Oct. 5).

Killian Ryan finished tied for 10th to lead the Cobras, posting a 74 in round two and a 67 in round three. Caleb Tidd turned in a 72 in round two and a 76 in round three, tying for 19th individually. Fred Tindale recorded a 71 in round two and a 73 in round three, tying for 25th. Coleman Bess shot a 72 in round two and 73 in round three, while Derek McGlaughlin posted a 71 in round two and a 77 in round three.

Coker finished ninth as a team in the tournament.

"This was another solid tournament performance against a great field for the Cobras," said head coach John Hackney. "Unfortunately, we were left on the back side of a big pack of teams and finished 9th when we were only six shots out of a fifth-place finish. I was proud of how our guys finished off the final four holes of our second round this morning. We played that stretch one-under as a team."

"The leaderboard kept changing all during the third round, when we were as high as fourth place after Caleb Tidd birdied seven, eight and nine. We faltered a bit late in the round, but I still thought we could get in the top five. However, we only played the par-5 13th at even par to complete the day."

"Killian Ryan had a great final round, carding a bogey-free 67, while Fred Tindale was steady throughout the tournament. Caleb again showed how talented he is by joining Killian and Fred in the top 25."

"We are close to being as good as anyone. We just need to take better advantage of our length on par 5s and convert more of our birdie chances. We posted 31 birdies, but could easily have made 50 since we missed a lot of putts in the 6- to 12-foot range. That's the difference from being in the middle of the pack and winning."

The Cobras are back on the links next week (Oct. 11-12) at the Queens Fall Invitational in Kannapolis, N.C., at the Irish Creek Golf & Country Club.
