Coker Golf to Compete in Richard Rendelman and Armstrong Invitational

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's and women's golf teams will both be in competition this weekend, as the men travel to compete in the Richard Rendelman Invitational and the women travel to compete in the Armstrong Pirate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Mar. 3-4).

The field for the men's team will consist of Christopher Fuga, Josh Clay, Zane Price, Blake Baysden, and Will Bundy.

Leading the field for the Cobras is Clay and Fuga, who in five events average a team best of 74.3 and 74.6 strokes per round, respectively.  Both averages have earned top-20 honors in the South Atlantic Conference for individual stroke averages.  Price and Bundy are close behind with averages of 76.4 and 76.8, followed by Baysden with 78.7.

The Richard Rendelman Invitational will be a 36-hole tournament and is hosted by Catawba College.  The competition will be played at the 6,500-yard Salisbury Country Club, in Salisbury, N.C.

Representing the women's team in the Armstrong Pirate Invitational is Taylor Demby, Mallory Thompkins, Krista Thorpe, Amber Harman, and Taylor Gaskins.

Demby is the team leader so far this season with the lowest stroke average of 78.0 in 10 rounds of play.  Demby's average is good enough to place her second in the South Atlantic Conference for individual stroke averages.  Thompkins comes in next with an average of 81.3, which puts her in the top-20 for individual stroke play in the SAC.  Thorpe is next on the team at 86.6, followed by Harman at 89.8.  This will be Gaskins' first collegiate appearance. 

The Pirate Invitational will be a 36-hole tournament, featuring 16 teams from around the nation. Teams will play an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday and complete 18 holes, with another shotgun start for Tuesday's final round beginning at 8:30 a.m.  The competition site will be at the Savannah Quarters Golf Club.
