DELAND, Fla.- After posting a two under par 70 in his second round of play at the 2011 NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional Tournament, Coker’s Jake Murphy (Hamilton, N.J.) has placed himself within striking distance of the tournament championship.

Tied for 17th overall in the tournament at two over par, Murphy is just five strokes off the lead set by Lynn University’s Ricardo Gouveia (-3). Conference Carolinas foes Daniel Claytor and Michael Mashburn also sit at the top of the leader board in a tie for second at two under par.

Barry University leads the field as a team at three over par, while Lynn is in second at five over and Barton is in third at seven over.

The top five teams and the top two individuals not on a team will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship May 16-20 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Currently, Murphy is tenth individual not on one of the top five teams.

Murphy will tee it up for the third and final time at the Victoria Hills Golf Club on Wednesday at 12:20 p.m. Fans can track Jake’s progress online with live scoring through www.golfstat.com.
