Hartsville, S.C. – Coker College Head Golf Coach, Tommy Baker, announced the first signee of the 2008-09 season for the Cobra Golf Team, Diego Polo. Diego is the first golfer to sign a National Letter of Intent to play for the Cobras under Coach Baker.

Polo is a native of Guatemala City, Guatemala, where he is a member of the Guatemalan National Team. He will comes to Coker, already familiar with the state of South Carolina, as he spent the last year of his school career at the Heritage Golf Academy in Hilton Head, S.C.

“We are very excited to have Diego joining our program,” said Coach Baker. “He is an exceptional young player and student. We are looking forward to him making an immediate impact for the team when he arrives in the fall and we hope he will become a big part of the Cobra Golf tradition.”

As a player, Polo qualified for the Toyota Junior World Cup in Japan and has had several top 10 finishes on the International Junior Golf Tour.

According to Coach Baker, “Diego has a ton of talent and dedication, which I feel will be a huge asset to the Cobras in the 2008-09 season.”

The Cobras had another stellar year, finishing fifth in the NCAA Atlantic Regional tournament, while finishing fourth in the Conference Carolinas Tournament and winning both the Carolina Sands Invitational and the St. Andrews Spring Invitational. Coach Baker and the Cobras will be looking for even bigger and better results in 2008-09.
