Men's Basketball Falls at Catawba Wednesday Night

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Coker University men's basketball team fell at Catawba in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday night (Feb. 12) by a score of 90-76.

Catawba jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first three minutes, before extending its lead into double-digits five minutes in. Coker would get back within seven with a Malcolm Kennedy three-pointer with seven minutes to play in the half, before Catawba would re-gain its double-digit lead with just over a minute remaining. Dakota Jennings scored the final bucket of the first half with six seconds left as Catawba took a 41-33 lead to the half.

The Cobras would get within seven in the first minute of the second half, before Catawba took control and got its lead back into double digits. Coker would get back within 13 with a minute left, before Catawba would hang on for the 14-point win.

Chandler Lindsey led the Cobras with a game-high 20 points, while Kennedy scored 18 points and Williams Onyeodi chipped in 10 points. Six other Cobras contributed points in the game. Onyeodi and Ryan Carfley shared the team lead in rebounds with seven each, while eight other Cobras were active on the glass in the game. Lindsey and KJ Harris each dished out five assists in the game, while Kennedy recorded two and three other Cobras each registered one assist. Kennedy led the Cobras with three steals, while three other Cobras each had one steal in the game. Jennings posted the lone block in the game for Coker.

The Cobras return home to the DeLoach Center on Saturday (Feb. 15) to host Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com. A reminder to fans that the Coker University men's lacrosse team is hosting a shoe drive to benefit the InnerSole Foundation and the Hartsville Boys and Girls Club. Donation of a new or slightly worn pair of shoes grants free admission into the game.
