Coker Falls at Lenoir-Rhyne in Conference Action on Saturday

HICKORY, N.C. - The Coker University men's basketball team fell at Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday (Jan. 4) by a score of 89-70.

 Lenoir-Rhyne would jump out to a six-point lead in the first few minutes, before extending their lead to eight headed to the halfway mark of the period. The Bears would extend their lead to double digits briefly, before the Cobras got back within six with a three-pointer from Royce Hunter with 6:11 to play in the frame. L-R's lead would fluctuate later in the first half, before Hunter would drill another triple with seven seconds left to get the Cobras back within six. Lenoir-Rhyne took a 41-35 lead to the half.

Lenoir-Rhyne opened the second half on a huge run, extending their lead into double digits in the first two minutes. The Bears would continue to stretch the lead in the second half, on the way to the victory.

 Hunter led the Cobras with a game-high 24 points, while Chandler Lindsey had 14 points and Malcolm Kennedy chipped in 13 points. Five other Cobras contributed points in the game. Coker out-rebounded Lenoir-Rhyne 38-27 in the game, led by six rebounds from Hunter. Williams Onyeodi, Dakota Jennings and Jaylin Stewart each had five rebounds in the game, while Lindsey and Roy Ellis each pulled down four rebounds. Three other Cobras were active on the glass in the contest. Lindsey dished out a team-high three assists in the game, while six others registered assists in the game. Onyeodi, Lindsey, Ellis and Kennedy recorded steals in the game. Lindsey and AJ McQuaige each posted blocks in the game as well.

The Cobras are back on the floor on Wednesday (Jan. 8) to host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
