Lemke's Career Day Leads Cobras Past Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team picked up a 78-67 South Atlantic Conference road win over the Brevard College Tornados on Saturday (Dec. 10) afternoon.

Brevard held control much of the first half, leading by as much 13 at the under eight media timeout. Trailing by double figures at the under four media timeout, Coker closed the first half by outscoring Brevard 7-0 to cut the deficit to 33-28 when the two sides departed for the locker rooms at the half.

The Navy and Gold exploded out of the gates to start the second half, rattling off a 13-2 run to take a 41-35 lead at the under 16-minute media timeout. Brevard would heat back up midway through the second half, cutting the deficit to one with nine minutes left and taking a three-point advantage at the under eight media timeout. Neither side was able to gain a substantial edge, as Coker held a narrow 64-62 lead going into the final media timeout. The Cobras closed the game on another impressive run, closing the matchup outscoring Brevard 12-5 in the final three minutes to bring home the 78-67 road win. 

Nathan Lemke finished with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds, while shooting 10-11 from the field. He was one made basket away from tying the Coker single-game field goal percentage record of 91.7 percent (11-12 FG). Jake Barrett, Miguel Priest and Roman Hall rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Cobras. Barrett finished with 12 points and five rebounds, Priest chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while Hall notched 10 points and four steals.

Coker will have a short turnaround, as they will travel to Queens (N.C.) on Monday (Dec. 12) to take on the No. 8 nationally-ranked Royals.
