Cobras Welcome Indians in South Atlantic Conference Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team (3-2) will play host to the visiting Catawba College Indians on Tuesday (Nov. 22) at 8 p.m. Tuesday's matchup will be the home and South Atlantic Conference opener for the Navy and Gold. The Cobras are coming off a 2-0 showing at the Newberry Classic, where they took down Southern Wesleyan University and Paine College. 

JaQuez Motley leads a balanced Coker attack, which has four players averaging more than 10 points per game. Motley comes into the contest averaging 12.8 points per game, including 21 in the win over Paine. Jake Barrett and Roman Hall are each averaging 11.2 points per game. The junior guards have each recorded three games of 10-plus points. Miguel Priest rounds out the offensive attack for Coker, averaging 10.8 points on 61.5 percent shooting. His shooting percentage ranks sixth in the South Atlantic Conference. Jalal Abdul-Azeez continues to be the leading facilitator, averaging four assists per game. 

On the defensive side of the ball, Priest and Nathan Lemke are averaging 6.6 and six rebounds per contest. Priest is also tied for fifth in the SAC with three offensive rebounds per game.

The Indians come into Tuesday's matchup with a 3-1 overall record and a 0-1 mark in SAC play. They are led by the scoring trio of Jerrin Morrison, Jameel Taylor and KJ Arrington. Morrison's 20.8 points per game is tied atop the SAC, while Taylor's 20 points per game is good enough for third. Arrington enters the matchup averaging 15.8 point per game, which is inside the top 15 in the SAC. All three also rank inside the top 20 in rebounds per game.

Opening tip is set for 8 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
