Coker Adds Marcell as Strength & Conditioning and Assistant Basketball Coach

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College has announced the addition of Brendan Marcell to the Cobra athletics staff.

Marcell will serve as the college's first strength and conditioning coach, as well as assistant men's basketball coach beginning July 1.

"I am excited that Brendan will lead the development of our strength and conditioning program, in addition to his work with the men's basketball team," said Coker vice president of athletics and athletic facilities Dr. Lynn Griffin.

"Brendan is going to be a great addition to our staff," said head men's basketball coach Aric Samuel. "He brings a great deal of knowledge, experience and passion for the game of basketball to Coker, plus it is always nice to have former players return to their alma mater."

Marcell, a 2012 graduate of Coker, returns to Hartsville after a two-year stint at South Atlantic Conference rival Newberry College where he served as assistant coach under Dave Davis. Marcell's primary responsibilities at Newberry included recruiting, on-floor coaching, individual player workouts, pre- and post-season workouts and assisting players with academic support.

A native of Greenville, S.C., Marcell graduated from Coker in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Management.  Marcell played four seasons at Coker earning the Coaches Award and serving as team captain in his senior season.  In addition to basketball, he was also the President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

In December 2013, Marcell earned his Masters Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine.
