BREVARD, N.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team fell to the Brevard College Tornados on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 30) 74-65 in a South Atlantic Conference road matchup.

The Cobras trailed 14-9 at the 11:38 mark in the opening half, however, they responded with a 12-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 21-16 lead with just under six minutes to go. Tied at 25 with two minutes left in the opening 20 minutes, Brevard would strike, going on a 9-0 to close out the half and take a 34-25 lead into the locker rooms.

The second half would be much of the same, with neither team having the upper hand in the early moments. A Sean Preston made free throw at the 9:09 mark would cut the Coker deficit to just five. Once again Brevard would respond, going on an 11-2 run and extending its lead to 14 with five and a half minutes remaining. A Donte Samuels three cut the deficit to six with 2:51 remaining, but Coker could get no closer and Brevard went on to win by nine.

Donte Samuels led the way with 24 points on 9-14 shooting, including 3-3 from behind the arc. He also pulled down six rebounds. JaQuez Motley finished with 12 points, all coming from three and Aubrey Daniel chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.

The Cobras will take on Queens University of Charlotte on Wednesday (Feb. 3).
