JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – Julian Nelson was Coker's leading scorer in the Cobras' 87-77 loss to Carson-Newman on Saturday (Jan. 18) in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action.
Nelson netted 23 points, including scoring 15 from 3-point range. Jonathon Gardner added 12 points from beyond the arc and Eren Moses chipped in 10 points and four rebounds. Teon Beckett also pulled down a game high 13 rebounds and scored nine points the Cobras.
Coker took a 45-40 lead after the first half thanks to sharp shooting and solid rebounding. The Cobras shot 56.7 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from 3-point range, while grabbing 18 boards compared to just seven for the Eagles.
The tables turned in the second half as Carson-Newman had the hot hand, while Coker struggled to regain its momentum. The Eagles out scored the Cobras 47-32 to take home the 87-77 victory.
The Cobras will return to the floor on Wednesday (Jan. 22) for a home game against Newberry College at 8 p.m.
