HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College basketball player Andrew Morris was recently named to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team. Morris was selected to the first team in District 3 of Division II.

"Andrew epitomizes what a student-athlete is," said head men's basketball coach Dan Schmotzer. "He works hard to maintain a great level of success on the basketball court and within the classroom, and he absolutely deserves this recognition. I am extremely proud to coach this exceptional young man."

Morris is a senior business major with a 4.0 grade-point average. On the court, Morris, a guard, is averaging 12 points and nearly four rebounds per game for the Cobras through 18 games. He was a Conference Carolinas third team all-conference selection for the 2011-12 season.

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Morris is the son of Richard and Rosemary Morris.

As a first-team selection, Morris automatically advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

The all-district teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and are intended to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance athletically and in the classroom. Teams are broken down into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

Coker College falls into District 3, which consists of Division II schools from Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt and South Atlantic conferences.
