Morris Hits Game Winner to Lead Cobras Past Bobcats in Double-OT

BANNER ELK, N.C. – With two seconds left in double-overtime, Andre Morris collected an offensive rebound and scored the game winning layup as the clock struck zero.  The Cobras defeated Lees-McRae 80-78 in a Conference Carolinas match on Saturday (Dec. 1) evening.

What started as a back and forth battle in the first half quickly turned into momentum for the Bobcats.  With only eight minutes remaining in regulation, Coker found themselves down by 14-points.

Despite limited time, the Cobras were not ready to surrender.  Offensive ball movement and solid defensive stands led to open looks and turnovers that favored Coker.  Then out of a Dan Schmotzer timeout, Julian Nelson received a pass from Bryce Arnott to put home the game tying layup and force overtime action.

Neither team could gain the edge in the first overtime as they battled to a 72-point draw.

The second overtime nearly mimicked the first, but the relentless Coker offense had other plans.  Three offensive rebounds for the Cobras allowed Coker to gain control in the last 16 seconds of the game, before Morris hit the game winner.

Morris had a game high 19-points, along with seven rebounds.  Sharod Williams and Larry Felder both had double-double performances with Williams scoring 13-points and collecting 15-rebounds, while Felder tallied 17-points and 12-rebounds.  Julian Nelson knocked down nine points and dimed six assists.

Coker is currently on a two game winning streak, and will hope to keep it alive on Wednesday (Dec. 5) as they travel to face UNC Wilmington in non-conference play.  The competition is scheduled to commence at 7 p.m.
