Cobras Edged Out by Camels 71-65

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Julian Nelson scored a game-high 21 points for the Cobras as they narrowly lost to Division I Campbell University 71-65 in their season opening exhibition game on Thursday night (Nov. 1).

Nelson scored 17 of his points in the opening half, giving the Cobras a 39-37 lead at the break. As a team Coker shot nearly 50 percent from the floor in the first half.

The Cobras struggled to find their rhythm in the second half, but managed to keep the score close never trailing by more than six. There were 10 lead changes and seven ties throughout the game.

With under a minute remaining the Cobras trailed by two (67-65), but an offensive foul negated what appeared to be an open backdoor layup that would have tied the game. The Camels drained a pair of ensuing free throws to put them on top for good.

Joining Nelson in double figures were Austin Harper and Errick Bethel with 15 and 13 points respectively. Sharod Williams had 11 boards and Bryce Arnott had six assists.

The Cobras will officially open their season on Nov. 17 on the road against Conference Carolinas rival Limestone College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
