Cobras Dethrone Royals, 78-67

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's basketball team knocked-off the first place Royals of Queens University of Charlotte on Tuesday night by a score of 78-67. The win put Coker in sole possession of fourth place in the Conference Carolinas East Division with just one game remaining in the regular season.

Only the top four teams from each division advance to the conference tournament.

It was a very close game from the opening tip to the final buzzer. The Cobras opened the game with an 8-4 run, but quickly found themselves in a 20-15 hole. Refusing to back down, the Cobras battled back to take a 39-31 lead into the intermission.

Coker made sure to keep the momentum going in the second by opening the half with a monster alley-oop dunk by Sharod Williams (Miami, Fla.) from Bryce Arnott (Melbourne, Australia). The momentum continued and the Cobras never relinquished the lead.

Williams finished the night with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Julian Nelson (Irmo, S.C.) dropped 16 points and Austin Harper (Chesnee, S.C.) scored 14 with eight boards. Charles West (Ellenwood, Ga.) also recorded double figure points with 11.

The Cobras will return to the floor for their final regular season game on Friday against Pfeiffer University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Misenheimer, N.C.
