Coker Falls to Newberry 92-88

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Four Coker players scored in double figures, with junior Sharod Williams (Miami, Fla.) leading the way in the Cobra men's basketball team's 92-88 loss to Newberry College Tuesday night. The loss snaps Coker's four-game winning streak, moving the Cobras to 6-3 as they close out the 2011 calendar year.

Williams had a double-double scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Andrew Morris (Melbourne, Australia) netted a team high 17 points; 15 of which came from three-point range, while Julian Nelson (Irmo, S.C.) added 15 points and Austin Harper (Chesnee, S.C.) chipped in with 13 points. Bryce Harper (Melbourne, Australia) was just one point shy of a double-double with nine points and an astonishing 12 assists.

Coker got off to a slow start scoring just 34 points in the first half, but had a 54-point outpouring in the second half. However, a tough Newberry defense was more than the Cobra offense could overcome.

The Cobras will now break for the holidays. They will return to the floor in 2012 when they travel to Mount Olive College for their first Conference Carolinas game of the season on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
