HARTSVILLE, S.C. – In their final game in Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium the Coker men’s basketball team’s four seniors, Mason Ambler, Michael Gore, Ricardo Smith and Brandon Sanders, were unable to lead their team to victory as the Cobras lost to the Falcons of Pfeiffer University 93-82 in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action Wednesday night.

The loss drops the Cobras to 11-14 overall and 8-11 in the conference, placing them in a three way tie for seventh place in the Conference standings entering the final weekend of play. Currently, Coker would take the eighth and final spot in the tournament by virtue of Belmont Abbey holding a 2-0 advantage head-to-head against the Cobras. Pfeiffer improves to 15-8 overall and 13-6 in the conference with the win, giving them the fourth seed currently for the tournament.

The Cobras stormed out of the gates and took an early 21-9 run in the first seven minutes of play, but Pfeiffer battled their way back to eventually take a 50-39 lead as both teams entered the locker room for halftime.

The second half saw the Cobras chip away at the Falcon lead and even get as close as five points, but Coker was unable to ever gain another lead and in the end the Falcons were able to take home the win.

Pfeiffer was outstanding from beyond the arc, hitting 10 of 25 (40.0%), while Coker shot just 21.4 percent from three-point range. The Cobras did shoot a solid 58.9 percent from the field, but were manhandled on the glass, as the Falcons cleaned up 36 rebounds to Coker’s 28.

Michael Gore (Landis, N.C.) had 15 points in his final home game, while Joselle Bracy (Ruby, S.C.) put up a season high 15 points. Mason Ambler (Atlanta, Ga.) finished his last game at Coker with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, with Vatrick Thompson(Columbia, S.C.) and Delonte Doles (Roswell, Ga.) scoring 14 and 10 points respectively.

Chris Woods had a game high 20 points for Pfeiffer, with James Crowder following behind with 17 points. Reggie Hollinger and Jeff Pettiway each dropped in 12 points and James Morse chipped in 10 points.

Both teams will wrap up the 2009-2010 Conference Carolinas schedule on the road this Saturday, February 27. Coker travels to Barton while Pfeiffer heads to Anderson. Both games tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
