Hartsville, S.C. – An 11-2 run to start the second half gave the Royals of Queens University all the lead they would need to give Queens a 72-56 win over the Coker Cobras in men’s Conference Carolinas basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Queens (5-5 overall, 2-2 Conf. Carolinas) was led by Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C.) with 18 points and eight rebounds, with Reggie Hopkins (Gastonia, N.C.) netting 14 points and Andre Lockhart (St. James, Barbados) added 10 points and five rebounds.

Coker’s (5-5, 2-2) Mason Ambler (Atlanta, Ga.) led all scorers with his eighth double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and pulling down 14 rebounds, while also shooting a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Vatrick Thompson (Columbia, S.C.) was the only other Cobra in double figures with 15 points, while Liam Kyle (Cleveland, Ohio) had eight points and six rebounds.

What started out as a very fast paced back and forth game in the first half of play, quickly turned into a Royals romp. At the half Coker trailed by just one point, but a quick run to start the second half and clutch free throw shooting down the stretch secured the Queens victory.

The Royals out-shot the Cobras from the floor, 44.9 percent to 36.2 percent, while Coker held the slight advantage from the charity stripe; 86.4 percent to 81.8 percent.

Both teams return to the floor to continue Conference Carolinas play on Monday night, with Coker traveling to Pfeiffer University and Queens heading to St. Andrews Presbyterian College. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tip-offs.
