Misenheimer, NC – The Pfeiffer men’s basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 110-115 loss to the Cobras of Coker College on Saturday evening in Merner gymnasium.  The loss drops Pfeiffer’s record to 13-10 overall and 10-6 in Conference Carolinas action.  The Cobras improve to 11-12 overall and 7-9 in the conference.

The Falcons quickly went up 5-0 in the first minute of play.  Pfeiffer controlled most of the first half and led by 13 points (34-21) with 8:37 to go.  However, the Cobras chipped away at their deficit and managed to tie the game 46-46 with 2:07 left.  Both teams sank two field goals and a three-point shot before going into the locker room tied at 54-54.

Pfeiffer returned to the court looking to regain the lead and were able to do so with 16:24 left in the game.  Unfortunately for the Falcons, this was the last time during the night they held the lead.  The Cobras responded with a quick field goal and followed it up with two more.  The Falcons continued to trade field goals with Coker, but were unable to catch up. High fouling also gave both teams the opportunity to cash in at the charity stripe.

Pfeiffer went 39-for-64 to make 60.9 percent of their field goals.  The men made 46.2 percent of their three-point attempts and 74.1 percent of their free throws.  Coker shot 63.3 percent from the field and matched Pfeiffer’s 46.2 three-point percentage. Each team was 12-for-26 from the arc. Pfeiffer won the battle of the boards 34-21 and earned 30 points off of Coker’s 18 turnovers.

Leading the Falcons was Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD) with 30 points, going 10-for-12 from the field and 6-for-7 from the arc.  Pettiway was near perfect at the line, sinking four of five free throws.  Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) flirted with a double-double scoring 23 points and grabbing seven rebounds.  Davon Gilliard, James Crowder, and Duke Johnson each added 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively.

Coker’s Josh Poston (Myrtle Beach, SC) led all scorers with 37 points. He also added four rebounds.  Stevie Evans (West Columbia) added 16 points for the Cobras. Joselle Bracy (Ruby, SC) and Mason Ambler (Atlanta, GA) each had 14.  Vatrick Thompson (West Columbia, SC) and Michael Gore (Landis, NC) chipped in 13 and 10, respectively.

Pfeiffer takes to the court again on Monday when the Falcons host Barton College with tipoff at 7:30 PM.
